3 is a UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System - 3G) network, which went live in the UK in March 2003. Three (3) are currently building additional base stations across the UK, to meet the industry requirement that they provide 3G services to at least 80 % of the population by the end of 2007.
Although their 3G (video) coverage is limited at the moment, they have an arrangement for their customers to use the O2 network for voice calls. This means that their 2G (voice) coverage is the same as O2.
