What is Broadband?

Also known as High Speed Internet, broadband is the term used to define any kind of fast Internet access over 256 kbps. Its high transmission rate allows data to be sent and received at significantly higher speeds than conventional modems.

This increased data transfer speed opens up a whole new world of multimedia content that would have been too slow to access using a dial up connection, and offers the possibility of vastly improved video and sound quality. Broadband allows you to easily access applications that were unachievable with traditional modems, such as videoconferencing, transferring large files at high speeds and instant access to web pages.

Broadband is designed to be 'always on', meaning that you will be permanently connected to the Internet, with instant access 24 hours a day.
