The courts may order the person who committed a crime to pay compensation to the victim of the crime, or to anyone else injured during the commission of the crime.
If you are the person who was injured, you must ensure the prosecution has a full account as you cannot make a claim for a Criminal Compensation Order yourself.
The amount you may receive will depend on how much the offender can afford to pay, however there is a cap of 5,000 on any Criminal Compensation Order. If a Criminal Compensation Order is made, the court will be responsible for ensuring the offender pays the compensation.
