As a Driver

If you are involved in a car accident as the driver, you should always make sure you get the details of any other people involved, and then immediately contact your insurance company.

  • If the accident was someone else's fault, then you have a right to claim compensation from the other person's insurance company.
  • If the accident was caused because of a poorly maintained roadway, you may be able to claim compensation from the Highway Authority or the local council.
  • If the accident was caused by a pedestrian or a cyclist, you may be able to make a claim, however this may be difficult as the pedestrian or cyclist may not have insurance.
