Exchange Server

by Edward Smith

An Exchange server is a mail/messaging server, usually using such protocols as SMTP. Microsoft Exchange is an industry standard for Windows users. Exchange 2000 is still a common version, used with Windows NT and Windows 2000, whilst the Exchange 2003 edition offers even more functionality in a Windows Server 2000/2003 environment.

An Exchange server can be used to link all kinds of messaging solutions on a LAN or even a wireless environment. The most common use is as a mail server: clients and workers using Outlook or Outlook Express (or even Internet Explorer) can easily exchange information in an efficient manner.
