The combination of the following seven components will make for a successful network:
- Communication is essential, as every computer on the network needs to be communicating in the same networking language.
- Design is important to ensure the network can reach everyone on it in the most efficient way.
- Routing is the manner in which data is transferred from one system to another.
- Reliability in networking refers to the data integrity, which is ensuring the data sent is identical to that received.
- It is also important to investigate interoperability when purchasing a network. Essentially this is making sure the components purchased from different manufacturers will connect and communicate with each other.
- The Security of each network user is important. Only selected information should be available for transfer and the network should be secured against unauthorised access from the outside.
- Standards are set to ensure that all network users follow specific rules and regulations.
