Reading a Wine Label from Argentina

Key:

  1. Catena Alta: The producer.

  2. 1996: The year the grapes were harvested (the vintage year). Bear in mind that Southern Hemisphere wines are picked in April of the vintage year, rather than September, which is the case in Northern Hemisphere wines.

  3. Cabernet Sauvignon: Grape variety used. Argentina specialises in varietal wines.

  4. Tikal: The vineyard.

  5. Mendoza: The region.
