Reading a Wine Label from Bordeaux, France

Key:

  1. Cru Bourgeois: An official classification for Bordeaux, part of the cru classé (or classed growths). The top 61 red wine châteaux on the left bank of the Gironde (where this vineyard is situated) are classified from Premier Cru (First Growth) to Cinquième Cru (Fifth Growth). A further 300 or so hold the rank of Cru Bourgeois.

  2. Château Anthonic: The name of the château where the wine was produced.

  3. Moulis: The appellation of origin. Moulis is situated within the Médoc sub-region of Bordeaux.

  4. Mis en Bouteille au Château: This means that it was bottled on site at the château, as opposed to a shipper-bottled wine, and is often an indication of quality.
