In Europe, the unit was available in Smart Black or Crystal White at a launch price of £99.99 (£149.99), and over 200,000 consoles were sold across the region within just 10 days. A Coral Pink version was released in the UK in October 2007.

In Japan, the console launched in Crystal White, with Ice Blue and Enamel Navy added to the range in March 2006, a Noble Pink version in July 2006 and an Onyx Black version in September 2006. Other regions, including North America and Australasia also launched with the white console (renamed Polar White), followed by Jet Black (Onyx) and Coral Pink (Noble Pink) later that year. It is expected that Nintendo will release other colours, as is customary with their handheld gaming systems.
