If you're after a quick system to take to a LAN party (local area network - term used for a group of PC's linked together, can be used for playing games peer to peer) then laptops are not ideal system wise, but they are very portable. You need to investigate the cost carefully. It can be expensive to buy a laptop suitable for the latest games. You also need to look at the following:
- hardware specifications (can it play the games/software you require?).
- screen size/keyboard/pointer (is it suitable for gaming? you could be pressing keyboard buttons rapidly so is it comfortable to use?).
- adapters and connectors (is it suitable for the hardware used in the LAN?).
