These will allow you to perform actions within software without having to use the mouse to, say, open a new file or to switch between italic or even change the size of text.
Many of these short cuts are dependent upon the software you are using and the computer operating system you have installed. Some shortcuts have entered general use in many programs in many operating systems. The table below displays a selection of these (for the Windows operating system and some UNIX/LINUX-based systems):
