Internal Transport

Internal flights are available from Borgo (16 km from Bobo Dioulasso) to Bamako, Bouake and Tambao. Air taxis are also available.

There is a limited daily train service from Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso; however, these can become very overcrowded.

In general, roads are impassable during the rainy season (July to October). As there are few street lights and some vehicles do not have headlights, it is not advisable to drive at night. Visitors should also be aware that there have been some incidents in the north of the country where cars have been stopped and robbed by armed groups. Car hire is a new development in Burkina Faso, and vehicles may be in poor condition. Visitors are advised to rent cars for a day or so before committing themselves to a longer contract. Shared taxis are available in major centres and chauffeur-driven cars are also available.

Regular bus services are operated in the dry season to all major towns; however, it is necessary to book at least 48 hours in advance.
