The Wii Remote is the console's innovative one-handed controller, which uses a combination of infrared detection (from an array of LEDs inside the Sensor Bar) and accelerometers to sense its position in 3D space. This enables users to control games using traditional button presses as well as physical gestures.
Up to 4 controllers can be connected to the Wii console using wireless Bluetooth technology, with the signal detected within 10 metres of the console. The remote also features force feedback, 4KB non-volatile memory and an internal speaker and can be used as a pointer within 5 metres of the screen.
Powered by two AA batteries, the remote includes the following buttons:
- Power switch
- Home
- +Control Pad
- A Button
- B Button
- - Button
- + Button
- 1 Button
- 2 Button
One Wii Remote comes with every Wii console together with an attachable wrist strap that can be used to prevent the player from unintentionally throwing or dropping the Wii Remote. However, the straps initially released with launch versions of the console proved to be somewhat flimsy, and so Nintendo offered a stronger replacement of all straps.
