Wii Physical Details

The Wii console is Nintendo's smallest home unit, measuring just 44 mm x 157 mm x 215.4 mm (W x H x D) and weighing just 1.2 kg. The console may be placed either horizontally or vertically.

The Wii standard package includes:

  • the console
  • a stand to enable the console to be placed vertically
  • a circular clear stabilizer for the main stand
  • a Wii Remote
  • a Nunchuk attachment
  • a Sensor Bar
  • a removable stand for the sensor bar
  • an external main power adapter
  • two AA batteries
  • a composite AV cable with RCA connectors
  • a copy of Wii Sports

The front of the Wii features an illuminated slot-loading optical media drive that accepts both 12 cm Wii Optical Discs and 8 cm Nintendo GameCube Game Discs. When the Wii is turned on, the blue light in the disc slot illuminates briefly, and pulsates if new data such as messages have been received from WiiConnect24. Once the user starts playing a game or using other features, the disc slot light turns off.

There are 2 USB ports located at the rear of the machine, and an SD card slot underneath the cover on the front of the console, which can be used to back up saved game data or upload photos to the console The SD card slot can also be used to back up downloaded Virtual Console games; however as Virtual Console data cannot be restored to any system except the unit of origin, the SD card may not be used to transfer these games to other machines.

The Wii is currently only available in white, although it is thought that other colours such as black, silver, lime green, blue and red may be available in the future. Future plans also include the possible release of a version that features DVD-Video playback capabilities.
