Casing/Covering

The most obvious piece of computer hardware is the case. The case is important because it protects and houses the internal components of the computer. Generally, cases provide spaces at the front for media drives with internal shelving to hold them.

Also included inside the case will be sections at the back for installing your PCI cards or adapters, such as your sound card, video card, network card, modem, and other internal cards within the motherboard. There will also be mounting points for your motherboard, hard and media drives. Unless you are building your PC from scratch then most will also come with their own power supply and fan.

For more information about computer cases, please see our detailed cases guide.
