A floppy disk drive is the most basic of drives. Floppy Disk commonly refers to a 3.5 inch disk drive that uses disks which can store around 1.4Mb of data. They are now being used less and less with the invention of drives capable of storing a larger amount of data, with many modern computers no longer have a floppy drive at all.
Zip drives allow the use of Zip disks, which are super high density floppy discs; they combine the portable profile of a regular floppy disc with their high capacity design.
A Jaz (or Jazz) drive is a larger relative of the Zip drive and can store up to 1 Gigabyte (Gb) of data, or 700 floppy disks' worth of data on a single removable disk. Jaz drives are not as widespread as Zip drives so are used less for data file portability and more for archiving or security backup of data files.
Whilst Zip, Jaz and floppy drives can all be fitted internally in a computer's drive bay, you can also purchase these devices as external peripherals.
