Steering Wheel

The steering wheel game controller, essentially a larger version of a paddle, is used for racing simulators such as Need for Speed and Gran Turismo. Many devices provide force feedback, which aims to recreate the force felt by drivers in real cars; however the quality and realism of this feedback depends very much on the controller and the game.

Steering wheels often come with pedals to control the brake and accelerator, whilst gear changing may be achieved by a paddle that can be moved forward or back to shift gears or a gear stick that mimics that of real vehicles, and may require the use of a clutch. The majority of wheels turn a maximum of 270 degrees lock-to-lock; however, some models, such as the Logitech Driving Force Pro, can turn 900 degrees, or 2.5 turns lock-to-lock.
