A game controller is an input device used to control the movement or actions of elements in a computer or video game. A gamepad, the most common kind of controller for video game consoles, uses directional control sticks and buttons to perform actions and control the game elements' movement in up to three dimensions. Other more specialised controllers include steering wheels, dance mats and light guns, whilst newer consoles may use touch screens or sensors that allow users to control the game using physical gestures as well as traditional button presses (Wii remote). Some devices, such as keyboards and mice used mainly by PCs, are actually generic input devices and their use is not strictly limited to that of a game controller.
