Microsoft Xbox 360

The Microsoft Xbox 360 was launched in North America on 22 November 2005 as the successor to the Xbox video game console. Developed in cooperation with IBM, ATI, Samsung and SiS, the console was later released a few weeks later in Europe on 2 December 2005 and in Japan on the 10 December. As such, it was the first console to have a near-simultaneous launch across the three major regions, and the console immediately sold out completely, selling 1.5 million units worldwide by the end of that year.

The Xbox 360 was the first machine to be released in the seventh generation of game consoles, and was also the first to provide wireless controller support at launch. Due to its early launch, the Xbox 360 had a one-year lead on both of its competitors, Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PLAYSTATION 3, and was the best selling 7th generation console over the Christmas 2006 period and second only to Sony's Playstation 2 in holiday sales for all consoles. By the end of the year, the console had sold over 10.4 million units.
