Seventh Generation Video Game Consoles

The 7th generation of video game consoles began on 22 November 2005 with the release of Microsoft's Xbox 360, and continued with the releases in North America of Sony's PLAYSTATION 3 and Nintendo's Wii in November 2006 (later for the UK). The era has also seen a number of clones and emulators, such as the Generation NEX and FC Twin Video Game System, which are designed to play Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges, and the plug-and-play console the Atari Flashback 2, which contains a number of built-in Atari 2600 games from the 70s and 80s.

In this section, we take a look at some of the most recently released video game consoles, including the Mattel HyperScan, a system specifically developed for the 'tween' market and multimedia systems such as EVO. There's also information on vapourware - hyped new consoles that failed to ever materialise, such as the Phantom Game Console .
