Sony PlayStation 2

The PlayStation 2 (PS2) was the successor to the PlayStation, and Sony's second video game console. It was first released on 4 March 2000 in Japan, followed by a release in North America on 26 October 2000 and in Europe on 24 November 2000. The PS2 became the fastest selling console at launch, breaking the record held previously by the Sega Dreamcast, selling over 900,000 units in the first weekend in Japan. It went on to become the fastest selling and most popular gaming console in history, with over 115 million units shipped worldwide by the end of 2006 - 44 million in Europe alone. By that time, the console was still outselling its competition, the Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360 and even the new PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii.
