The sixth-generation era or 128-bit era began on November 27, 1998 with the release of the Sega's fifth game console, the Dreamcast. It was followed over a year later by the PlayStation 2 in March 2000, and the following year by the Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft Xbox. The PS2 went on to become the highest selling game console of all time, with nearly twice the sales of all its competitors combined.
In this section, you'll find information on all the 6th generation video game consoles, including the Sony PSX (a multimedia console released in Japan), the Atari Flashback, which was designed to emulate older Atari games, and the Atari Jaguar II, which was cancelled before it made it to production.
