Video Game Genres

The majority of video and computer games can be categorised into particular genres, such as strategy, first person shooter, sports or platform games. However, there can be a great deal of overlap between categories, and many games may fall into a number of divisions. For example, Diablo and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance have elements of both action-adventure and role-playing games, whilst Myst is an example of an adventure game/puzzle crossover.

In this section, we've put together a guide to the most popular video and computer games genres, including information about some of the titles you'll find in each category.
