Magnavox (Latin for 'loud voice') was an electronics company founded by Edwin Pridham and Peter Jensen in 1917 to market their moving-coil loudspeaker. Magnavox went on to become a major consumer and defence electronics company, manufacturing radios, TVs and record players.
In 1972, Magnavox brought the first ever home video game console onto the market: the Magnavox Odyssey, which contained games such as Shooting Gallery (which used a light gun), Roulette, Table Tennis, Football and Soccer. The successor to this console, the Magnavox Odyssey 2 was released in 1978, which was particularly renowned for its pioneering fusion of board and video games.
