Is it possible to become addicted to video games?

Playing computer or video games is much like any other hobby - people play them because they enjoy them, and some people enjoy them more than others. Someone who enjoys reading may simply read books as part of their daily activities, and continue to socialise, exercise (and so on) as normal. However, another person may enjoy reading so much that they withdraw from other activities, much in the same way as someone who watches too much television. Video game playing is simply another daily activity that people take pleasure in; if the games aren't enjoyable, then they won't play them. If they do, they may play them occasionally, or they may play them as much as possible. Playing video games is not a physical addiction.

Having said this, these people could also discover it the same way from watching light flickering through trees, watching television or seeing flashing disco lights.
