Ontario's wine regions are located right in the middle of the northern grape growing belt, between 41° and 44° north. This places them on the same latitude as Bordeaux and the northern California wine regions.
Many of the wineries are located in the historic Niagara-on-the-Lake, on the Niagara Peninsula. With complex glacial soils and a climate similar to that of Burgundy, the Loire Valley, Oregon and New Zealand, the region is ideal for growing grapes.
