Somontano

Somontano is at an ideal altitude and climate to produce unique, high-quality wines. The wines from this region are elegant, structured, and in many cases, suitable for long aging.

Location
Situated in the centre of Huesca province, between the Pyrenean foothills and the Ebro valley.

Grapes

  • Red: Moristel, Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta (Grenache), Parraleta, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Syrah
  • White: Viura (Macabeo), Garnacha Blanca, Alcañón, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer

Somontano reds are typically full-coloured with a high tannin content and good acidity that allows long ageing. The whites are fresh, full-bodied and pale in colour. The rosés are characterised by a wide range of colours, and are fresh, fruity, and mild in flavour.

A wide range of international grapes are grown, making varietals from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay. The resulting wines have a remarkable finesse and delicacy. They are also very good value - but unfortunately that doesn't necessarily mean low-cost.
