Although there are many different designs to choose from, always try to obtain a quality corkscrew with a comfortable handle and a sharp, open spiral screw long enough to penetrate the cork. Avoid those with a solid core screw, as these tend to either get stuck in tough corks or destroy delicate ones.

Find out more information about different styles of corkscrew (including the waiter's friend, screwpull, butterfly and the 'ah-so' or butler's friend) in the guide to corkscrews in the Wine Resource Centre.
