Igniting Drinks

If you want to add a little drama to your drinks, you may want to try making a flaming cocktail. Although most alcoholic beverages will ignite, they often need a little persuasion to do so. You should always make sure that the top layer of your cocktail is at least 40% alcohol, and that it sits near the rim of the glass.

  1. Heat up a barspoon of the same alcohol with a lighter. Alternatively, you can use overproof white rum.
  2. When the alcohol in the spoon is hot, ignite it and then gently float the flaming liquid on to the surface of the cocktail.
Do not allow the cocktail to burn for more than a few moments as it may cause the glass to crack.
