A Buck is a cocktail that was invented in the 1890's, but is rarely seen in bars today. It consists of one base spirit, lemon or lime juice and ginger ale, poured directly into an ice-filled glass. It is somewhat similar to a Rickey, but with ginger ale.
Traditionally, Bucks are made by squeezing a quarter of a lemon or half a lime into the glass with the other ingredients and tossing in the spent shell. However, white rum-based Buck cocktails may also have small amounts of other flavouring ingredients, such as liqueur, fruit juice or syrups.
