One of the greatest advancements in car security systems over the past few years is the vehicle tracking (or tracker) system. Although a tracker system cannot actively prevent anybody from breaking into your car, it will (as the name suggests) track your car if it is stolen.
The car is fitted with a hidden device that sends out a unique signal to pinpoint the exact whereabouts of your car and relays that information to police. It is combined with a satellite Global Positioning System (GPS), which can make locating your car quick and simple. Tracker systems are relatively expensive (about £500 plus an annual subscription) but are a sophisticated and effective way to prevent thieves from stealing and selling on your car. Make sure that any tracking system you install will also work in mainland Europe; this will protect you in the event that your car is stolen and quickly exported.
