Using Carrycots

Carrycots are not designed to withstand the considerable forces generated in an accident and provide much less protection than rearward-facing baby seats. A group 0 or group 0+ child seat is far safer and more convenient to use than a carrycot; however, a doctor may occasionally advise the use of a carrycot; for example, for premature or very low birth weight babies.

If you do need to use a carrycot, it must be placed in the rear of the vehicle; lay it across the back seat, as close to the middle as you can. Position the baby's head as far away from the car door as possible to minimise the risk of contact with the door in the event of a crash.
