In 2004, 24 children were killed, 372 were seriously injured and thousands more were slightly injured in car accidents. Sadly, many of these deaths and injuries could have been prevented if the child had been restrained in the car by putting them in a properly fitted child car seat appropriate for their weight and size. Unfortunately it is thought that approximately 7 out of every 10 child seats are fitted incorrectly, which significantly increases the risk of injury, even in low speed accidents.
In this section, you can learn about the new child seat laws, and how you can choose a seat suitable for your child's weight and age. There's also important advice on how to fit your car seat correctly.
