Betting on Golf

During the last ten years, there has been a significant increase in the number of people in the UK playing golf in their leisure time. As a growing number of new golf courses open across the UK, more and more people have become interested in playing golf, watching golf on television and golf betting.

As the sport's popularity has increased both in the UK and across the world, there has been an increase in the amount of money being placed on golf betting. This is partly due to the fact that golf is a year round sport - hardly a week goes by without a tournament being held in some part of the world, giving bettors a tremendous amount of action to choose from.

As golf is an individual sport, there's no need to consider how team members will play together or whether the manager will play a good formation. In golf, you can simply bet on the proven ability of just one person against the rest of the field.

Bets can be placed on a number of different golfing tournaments that take place throughout the year including the Masters, the US Open, the British Open and the PGA championship, with many different types of bet available.

Not only can you bet on the outright winner of a tournament (betting to win), you can also bet on individual rounds. A two-ball (2B) bet will allow you to wager on whether one player will outscore another player over one round, whilst a three-ball (3B) bet lets you nominate one player who will outscore another two nominated players.

A bet can also be made on two competing golfers in a tournament. This is called a 72 Hole Match bet, 72H or a Match bet. The bet is on which player will have the lower score at the finish.

A Group bet is a wager on the lowest score of a selected group of players. The bookmaker will usually select a group of 4,5, or 6 players to compare, giving them odds of beating the rest in the group.

Whether you're a Tiger Woods level professional golfer or you simply enjoy watching golf coverage on the TV, betting can add that little extra bit of excitement to the game.
