Chapatis are an Indian unleavened flatbread, made from atta - finely ground wholemeal flour. The dough is made by adding the atta to salt and water, which is then rolled out to form a thin, flat disc approximately 12-15 cm in diameter. The chapati is then cooked directly on a griddle with no oil or fat, although it may be brushed with ghee or butter when it is done.

Chapatis (also spelled chapatti) are served hot with Indian curries and other savoury dishes, where they are torn into pieces and used to wrap around and pick up each bite of the cooked dish.
