Broad study areas: Most of the main subject areas are taught at one or more of the member institutions. Medicine and dentistry offered at Cardiff University.

Students: Total 99,700 (60,200 full-time, 39,500 part-time). First degree students 50,300 (45,900 full-time, 4400 part-time), of which 2200 from outside the EU. Postgraduates 20,300. Teaching staff: 5500.

Founded: 1893, originally bringing together three existing colleges at Aberystwyth, Bangor and Cardiff. Structural features: A federal university. It consists of ten member institutions:

Cardiff University, one of the founding institutions, is an affiliated institution. Teaching, academic appointments and the selection of students are all the responsibility of the individual institutions. You can look up each of these institutions separately.

Length of courses: 3 or 4 years: 4-6 for medicine, 5 for dentistry.
