Weather forecasting is the prediction of the future state of the atmosphere using current technology and for a given location. The history of weather forecasting goes back thousands of years; however the techniques used have changed significantly since then.
Today, weather forecasts are made by collecting as much data as possible about the current state of the atmosphere (particularly temperature, humidity and relative humidity and winds peed and direction) and using understanding of atmospheric processes to determine how the atmosphere will evolve in the future.
The chaotic nature of the atmosphere and incomplete understanding of the processes mean that forecasts become less accurate as the range of the forecast increases.
