Rollmop

Rollmops are pickled herrings that have been rolled up tightly around slices of onion or pickled cucumber and peppercorns, and held together with small wooden skewers. They are placed into a jar of spiced, white wine vinegar, occasionally along with sugar, onion rings, peppercorns and mustard seeds.

Rollmops are best enjoyed on black bread spread with unsalted butter.
