Crème Brulée

Word Origin: French

Cream custard with a crust of caramelised sugar. Despite its French name, this dessert is believed to have been first made at Trinity College in Cambridge in the 1600s where it was called Trinity cream. It was not until the 19th century that the French translation of 'burnt cream' was used to describe it.
