Common Name: Baby's Tears

Indigenous to the Mediterranean, this creeping, monoecious perennial is an attractive ground-cover but can become invasive. The small, alternate, round leaves are bright green and the tiny, inconspicuous flowers are borne singly in the leaf axils. This genus was previously known as Helxine.

Species

S. soleirolii, baby's tears, Irish moss or mind-your-own-business, is a delicate, carpeting plant with slightly hairy stems and tiny, round leaves with short leaf stalks.

Cultivation

Propagate by division in spring. Grow in shade or sun and in any garden soil. Can be damaged by hard frosts. In cold climates, grow under glass as a pot plant.

Zone 8. Cool to warm temperate climates.
