Lemon Verbena

This perennial, deciduous shrub has branching, woody stems. The leaves are narrow and the terminal spikes of white or lilac flowers appear in summer. It grows up to 2 m (6 ft) high. Both the fresh and the dried leaves are used as a gar­nish for fruit drinks, to flavor milk puddings, and for making tea. The dried leaves and flow­ers are used in potpourri.

Cultivation

Grow in light to medium, moder­ately rich, well-drained soil in full sun, and give protection from wind. Lemon verbena will not tolerate excessive cold or severe frosts. Propagate from semi-ripe cuttings in summer, rooted under glass.
