Measuring Jugs

In cooking, liquids are measured in millilitres (ml) and litres (l) or fluid ounces (fl oz) and pints. A toughened glass jug is the best way to measure these amounts; the glass can withstand boiling liquids, whilst allowing the cook to see exactly how much is in the jug. Make sure that the gauge indicates both metric and imperial measures.

Clear plastic jugs are also available, whilst these are cheaper, they may become distorted if subjected to too much heat - this will affect their accuracy.

China or stainless-steel jugs are good at withstanding heat; however, as the measure is printed on the inside of the jug, it can be difficult to gauge whether or not the correct level has been reached.
