Funding for Postgraduate Trainee Teachers

Postgraduate students on a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) course are eligible to receive an attractive package of financial support. This includes:

  • no tuition fees to pay
  • a training bursary of £9,000 (£225 a week) for maths and science students, followed by a £5,000 Golden Hello on completing the induction
  • a training bursary of £9,000 for shortage subject students (such as modern foreign languages, Music, Design and Technology, ICT and RE) followed by a £2,500 Golden Hello
  • a £6,000 (£150 a week) training bursary for all other secondary PGCE students and all primary PGCE students

Students in England are also eligible for a non-means tested grant of £1,200 and are able to apply for an additional means-tested grant of £1,500.
