Tuition Fees for Undergraduate Degrees

UK students at universities and colleges within England, Wales and Northern Ireland, are required to contribute to the tuition fees of their undergraduate degrees. Students from these regions are also required to pay fees if they enrol on an undergraduate course in Scotland. However, tuition is free for Scottish domiciled students enrolled at Scottish institutions.

Students who started their course before September 2006 will be charged a maximum of £1,200 a year, whilst those starting their course from September 2006 can be charged up to a maximum of £3,000 a year depending on the university, the course and the region. The table below shows the maximum tuition fees that HE institutions can charge full-time students UK who start an undergraduate course in 2006/2007.

Northern Ireland

From September 2006, all new and existing students will be able to defer payment of their tuition fees until after they have completed their studies. They will also be able to take out a 'fee loan' from the Student Loan Company which is repayable only after they have left university and are earning a certain amount per year (currently £15,000). The maximum fee loan available is £3,000 a year for new students and around £1,200 for existing students. More information about help with fees can be found elsewhere in this section.
