In September 2001, a number of national qualifications in adult literacy and numeracy were launched. These include:
- Level 1/ 2 Certificate in Adult Literacy
- Level 1/ 2 Certificate in Adult Numeracy
Adult learners can gain these qualifications by passing the national adult literacy and numeracy tests. Each test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, similar in style to the ones in the driving theory test, and lasts an hour. The test is free and can be taken in many local learning centres; practice tests are available online.
