Annual Parents' Meeting

Every year, your child's school must hold a meeting for parents to discuss the annual report and any other matters relating to the school. This is an important opportunity for parents to discuss what has been happening at the school over the previous year and to give their views on the way the school is developing.

All parents of pupils at the school have a right to attend the meeting and if there are enough parents present, they can pass formal suggestions (resolutions) on any of the subjects raised. These resolutions must be considered by the governing body, or passed on to the local authority if appropriate. Comments on every resolution that has been passed must be included in the next annual report to parents. Attending the annual general meeting gives parents a real power to influence school policy.

For a resolution to be valid, there must be at least 1 parent in attendance for every 5 pupils at the school. For example, in a school with 500 pupils, at least 100 parents must attend.
