Key Stage 1

When your child starts Year 1 of primary school (generally at age 5) they will enter Key Stage 1 - a two year block of teaching, at the end of which they should have reached a particular level of skills, knowledge and understanding.

As a parent or carer, you have a very important role to play in helping your child learn at Key Stage 1. This should include taking an interest in what they are learning at school and praising them when they have done well. To help you out, we've put together a list of the subjects taught at KS1, along with a guide to the assessment your child will take at the end of Year 2.
