Although it might sound like a cliche, evening classes are a great way to meet new people and possibly even potential dates. If you want to join a class to expand your social life as well as your mind, it's important to pick the right subject matter; you'll have far more student interaction in a conversational Italian class than in a meditation group. However, don't choose a subject purely for its pick-up potential; make sure you're actually interested in what you sign up for! As with any new social activity, use it as a way to meet people generally - not just the ones you might want to date. Making new friends will help to widen your horizons even further.
If you do meet someone you're interested in, evening classes give you a perfect environment to strike up a conversation; having the same course in common will always give you something to chat about. There's also often the opportunity to extend the evening with a drink after class, which can provide a relaxed atmosphere to talk about the evening's lesson - or anything else that comes to mind!
