Probing Questions

Often your response to an open question will provoke a more probing question from the interviewer, as a way of seeking more detail. Interviewers may use this type of question to clarify a point, to force you to justify or back up your arguments or to reveal your strengths or weaknesses. For example:

  • "How did you resolve the situation?"
  • "Why did you think this was the best course of action?"
  • "Do you think that you could have handled the situation in a different way?"
