Along with compatibility, chemistry between two people is one of the most essential elements of any relationship. Although having great chemistry will not guarantee you a successful relationship, a relationship without any chemistry is almost certainly doomed to failure.
Chemistry is not all about looks or sex appeal, although they do both have their part to play. You could find yourself enormously attracted to someone who defies all your preconceived ideas about what you find attractive. It may be a mixture of things about them; their eyes, the way they smile, the way they move, even the sight of their hands or the back of their neck may be enough to give you butterflies in the pit of your stomach! Chemistry is a complex emotion that is hard to explain but very easily recognised when it's there.
Unlike lust, chemistry rarely wanes, and if you have great chemistry AND find that you can enjoy each others company whether you're out on the town or simply staying in watching TV, you may just have an enduring and enviable relationship on your hands.
However, if you get on like a house on fire but there's just no chemistry, it may be best to come to terms with the fact that you don't have a long-term romantic and sexual relationship that is going to work out. What you've got is a potentially great friend. Enjoy their friendship, move on and find someone who really sparks your interest and leaves you breathless, excited and weak in the knees.
